Springlet privacy policy

Last updated:

Springlet keeps your profile and your drinks on your phone and your watch. It has no account and no Auraware server, and Auraware never receives what you enter. The free version of the phone app shows a banner ad from Google, which is the one part of the app that shares information with a third party. It is described in full below.

Scope

This policy covers the Springlet app for Android phones and Wear OS watches, published by Auraware. Versions for iPhone and Apple Watch are in development; this policy will be updated to cover them before they are released. The Auraware website has its own privacy policy.

The short version

  • There is no Springlet account, login or sign-up.
  • Your profile, drinks and settings are stored only on your devices. Springlet has no Auraware server, and Auraware has no copy of your data.
  • The free phone app shows a banner ad served by Google AdMob, which collects device and usage information as described below. The watch app never shows ads.
  • Your health information — weight, drinks, activity, and anything read from Health Connect — is never given to the ads service or used for advertising.
  • A one-time purchase through Google Play removes the ads.
  • Springlet contains no analytics or crash-reporting code of its own.

What the app stores on your devices

To set your goal and time your reminders, Springlet stores the following in the app's private storage on your phone, and a copy of what the watch needs on your watch:

  • Your profile — weight, activity level or daily exercise minutes, climate, preferred units, waking hours, your daily goal (or the one you set yourself) and your default drink.
  • Your drinks log — each drink's time, amount and type, and the custom drink sizes you add.
  • Reminder settings — reminder style (notification or alarm), quiet periods, snooze and skip state.
  • Health settings — whether Health Connect is turned on, and today's exercise minutes as last read from it.
  • Ad and purchase status — whether you have removed ads, when you first opened a version of Springlet with ads, and when Springlet last asked whether you would like to remove them.

Weight, drinks and exercise are health-related information. They never leave your devices except in the ways listed below, and none of them go to Auraware or to the ads service.

What leaves your phone

Advertising (free version, phone only)

Until you remove ads, the phone app shows one banner at the bottom of the screen, served by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. To serve and measure ads and prevent fraud, Google may collect and process information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address (and approximate location derived from it), device and operating-system details, the app's identity, and your interactions with the ads. Google handles this information under Google's privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services. On phones that support it, the SDK may also use Android's Privacy Sandbox ad services (ad topics and attribution), which you can control in your phone's privacy settings.

  • Consent. Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), Springlet shows Google's consent message before any ads are requested, and you can change your choice later in Settings → Ad privacy options.
  • Your advertising ID. You can reset or delete it, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone's settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads on most Android phones).
  • Content. Springlet asks Google not to show ads rated above PG.
  • No health data. Springlet gives the ads service nothing you enter into the app. The SDK receives only what it gathers from the device itself, as described above.
  • Offline. Without a connection, no ad is requested and the banner space shows a built-in message instead.

After you remove ads, Springlet stops starting the ads SDK and requests no more ads.

Removing ads

The one-time purchase is made through Google Play, using Google's Play Billing Library. Google handles your payment and your Google account; Springlet receives only a confirmation that the purchase is owned, which it keeps on your phone so ads stay off when you are offline. Auraware does not receive your payment details, name or email address from Google for using the app.

Your watch

The phone and a paired Wear OS watch exchange your profile and drinks directly with each other, through Google Play services' Wearable Data Layer, which encrypts the connection. Nothing passes through Auraware.

Health Connect (optional)

If you turn it on, Springlet saves each drink to Health Connect on your phone, and reads your weight and exercise sessions from it, only to set and adjust your daily goal. What Springlet writes there is then managed by Health Connect under its own settings and the terms of the apps you allow to read it. Springlet uses Health Connect data only for your goal. It is never sold, shared or used for advertising, and never sent to Auraware. Springlet's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Files you export

History → Export as CSV creates a CSV file of your drinks and saves it where you choose. What happens to it after that is up to you.

Your phone's own backup

If you have turned on Google backup, Android may include Springlet's data in that backup, stored in your Google account under Google's terms, so it can be restored to a new phone. Auraware has no access to those backups.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled and shown by your phone and watch; no notification is sent from a server. A reminder may mention your progress (for example, how much you have left to drink), so, depending on your settings, that text may be visible on the lock screen.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Notifications — to show reminders. Optional.
  • Alarms and reminders — only if you choose alarm mode, so a reminder can ring on time.
  • Run at startup — so reminders survive a restart.
  • Health Connect (phone) — write water, read weight and exercise. Optional, and only if you turn it on.
  • Internet and network state (phone) — for ads and Google Play purchases.
  • Advertising ID and ad services (phone) — used by Google's ads SDK, as described above.
  • Billing (phone) — for the purchase that removes ads.

The watch app asks only for notifications, alarms and run at startup. Springlet does not ask for your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or precise location.

What we do not do

Auraware does not collect, sell or share your personal information, does not run analytics, and does not build a profile of you. Ads are served by Google as described above; Auraware receives only aggregate advertising reports from Google (for example, how many ads were shown), not information about you.

Deleting your data

You can delete entries in the app at any time. Uninstalling Springlet from your phone and watch removes everything it stored there. Deleting does not reach copies elsewhere: CSV files you exported, water saved to Health Connect (delete it in Health Connect), and your phone's system backups are yours to delete where they are kept. Your purchase record stays with your Google Play account. To have Google delete advertising data associated with your device, reset or delete your advertising ID and use the controls in your Google account.

Your rights

Under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. For Springlet, Auraware holds none: your data is on your devices, where you can see it, export it, correct it or delete it at any time.

Questions or requests go through our contact form, choosing “Privacy or data request”. Anything you send there is handled under the website privacy policy. We respond within 30 days, at no charge. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

Springlet is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Health information

Springlet gives general wellness guidance and is not a medical device. The health-related details you enter are used only on your devices, to set your goal and time your reminders.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a future version of Springlet changes what leaves your devices, this policy will say so before that version is released.
